How To Backup and Restore The Orange San Francisco / ZTE Blade
Choose from a full backup/restore or a partial backup/restore.

There are two types of backups you can perform – a “full backup” and a “settings and apps backup”. The following explains these two types of backups and why you might want to perform one over the other.

  • Full backup – Creates a 100% backup of your phone to the sd card. You can restore the backup at any time.

There are some examples for why you would want to perform a full backup. Say you are using a custom ROM. One day, a new custom ROM is released that is supposedly better. You are unsure, so you want to test the new ROM first, but at the same time you don’t want to completely wipe your phone and loose everything in case you don’t like the new ROM. If you create a full backup before you install the new ROM, you can be sure to restore your phone to the exact state it was before, at any time. You can create as many full backups as you wish – one for each ROM if you like.

  • Settings and apps backup – exactly what it says on the tin. It only backs up your settings and apps. It will not backup your ROM.

There are some examples for why you would want to perform a settings and apps backup. Say you want to install a brand new custom ROM, but at the same time you but you don’t want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all the apps manually and changing all the settings manually. If you perform a settings and apps backup before install a new ROM, it will create a backup of your settings and apps onto your sd card. Then, once you have installed the new ROM, you can restore the settings and apps. Widgets and homescreen settings cannot be backed up with this method.
